Syria prepares to launch an online trademark registration system
The Directorate for Commercial and Industrial Property Protection has completed about 80 percent of the program, which is now in its trial phase.
The Directorate for Commercial and Industrial Property Protection, part of the Ministry of Industry and Internal Trade and Consumer Protection, is preparing to launch an online trademark registration system in Syria. According to SANA, the system aims to simplify procedures, organize workflows and improve the quality of services offered to citizens and investors.
Directorate head Abdul Majid al-Abdo told SANA on Wednesday that the online trademark registration program is about 80 percent complete. He added that it has entered a trial phase ahead of its launch, which he said would help develop services and simplify registration procedures.
Al-Abdo said the directorate is developing and organizing its infrastructure to meet the needs of its work and to help prepare a suitable environment for receiving visitors and improving services.
The directorate is responsible for registering intellectual property rights in Syria, including trademarks, patents, and industrial designs and models. SANA reported in May 2025 that the cumulative number of registered trademarks since the directorate was established in 1946 had passed 183,000.
According to al-Abdo, the next phase will see a queue system activated at the directorate at the same time as the online system launches, in order to organize the flow of visitors, ease crowding and improve how transactions are completed. No launch date has been announced.
