SalamAir launches Muscat-Damascus route, flights start 28 October

SalamAir becomes the first Omani airline to operate direct flights to Syria, according to the company's statement issued in Muscat.

SalamAir, Oman's low-cost airline, has launched its Muscat-Damascus route at a ceremony held at Muscat International Airport. The company announced that direct flights to the Syrian capital begin on 28 October 2026, and said it will be the first Omani airline to operate the route.

The ceremony was held under the patronage of Eng. Khamis bin Mohammed Al Shamakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and Chairman of SalamAir. It was attended by Khalid Al Ayoubi, Chargé d'Affaires at the Syrian Embassy in Oman, as well as the Deputy Head of the Iraqi Diplomatic Mission, representatives of Oman Airports, aviation partners and media. The event was a joint celebration of the Erbil and Damascus services.

The company said the service will strengthen connectivity between Oman and Syria and offer a convenient option for passengers travelling for tourism and business. It added that the route will let travellers discover the Syrian capital's cultural heritage, historic landmarks and traditional markets. Al Ayoubi said the direct flights will boost economic and tourism cooperation, make it easier for Syrian expatriates to stay connected to their homeland, offer competitively priced travel options, and support business travel, trade and air cargo.

SalamAir Chief Executive Yaqoob bin Saif bin Hamoud Al Kiyumi said Damascus and Erbil are the seventh and eighth destinations added this year, bringing the network to more than 46 destinations. He added that the fleet has grown to 18 aircraft. The Muscat-Erbil service begins on 25 October 2026 with two weekly flights.

SalamAir began operations in 2017 and operates a fleet of Airbus A320neo Family aircraft. Flights can be booked through SalamAir.com and the airline's mobile app.
