Fiber to the Home Begins in Deir ez-Zor Under the Barq Net Project

Deir ez-Zor Telecom has started laying fiber in the Villat al-Baladiya neighborhood, aiming to cover about 80 percent of it within a month.

The Deir ez-Zor branch of the Syrian Telecom company on Sunday began laying the home fiber-optic network (FTTH) under the Barq Net project in the Villat al-Baladiya neighborhood. The work forms the core of the project's first network in the governorate, and is meant to cover about 80 percent of the neighborhood within a month.

Branch director Anas al-Yaseen told SANA that the work aims to bring the fiber network directly to homes. He said the implementation period set for the project is one month, with a target of covering 80 percent of the neighborhood.

According to al-Yaseen, the project aims to replace old and worn-out copper networks and cables with modern infrastructure that keeps pace with developments in the telecom sector. He said available internet speeds will range from 8 to 100 megabits, in line with subscribers' needs and financial means.

The branch director added that the project is the start of an expansion of fiber services to other neighborhoods in the city of Deir ez-Zor and to areas in the countryside, including Albu Kamal and Mayadin, with the aim of developing telecom infrastructure and improving the quality of internet services.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology had announced the launch of the Barq Net fiber-optic project on 15 June 2025, aiming to bring the network directly to homes and offices across Syrian regions.
